SVS Prime Tower speakers sound great for this price range! I run them in a 2.1 system. I used to run a 7.2 system but speaker placement was not ideal for my situation and since I prefer music I chose to go stereo with my latest system. Since I am running a subwoofer, it was a tough choice between bookshelf or towers. For a budgeted listener, I'd recommend these speakers

I purchased the SVS Primes to replace my Energy C-9's for my home music stereo system. I found the Energy's quite large in my living room .When I first unpacked them I was a little skeptical seeing the size difference Despite the size difference I have been very impressed with them . The aesthetic improvement is obvious but they really do sound great and I don't feel I have lost anything in sound quality .
