iFi Audio Zen Phono Accurate Moving Coil / Moving Magnet Phono Turntable Pre-Amp

The iFI Zen Phono will not disappoint. If you want to upgrade an onboard, or your receiver does not have a phono stage than this should be on your short list. Compared to the onboard phono pre-amp in my Onkyo the Zen is better but not night and day better. The differences is in the detail and resolution. After a few days of listening I have had a few, " never heard that before," moments. If you never plan on getting a MC cartridge than cheaper options are out there, at $250 Canadian it is starting to be to expensive, if it was, say $179, than this would have beena 5 star.

Really the best value phono preamp in the Hi-Fi market, better than the Schiit Mani. The Service with EFLC always very good!

I have been using the on board pre-amp in my Onkyo TX8270 and have been very satisfied, but after seeing all the hype about the ifI ZEN PHONO I decided to order one. Is it way better than the Onkyo? No, but it is good. There is better high frequency resolution and the mid range (vocals) seem a bit more forward. Bass response is flat, not boosted. To sum it up it is a neutrally balanced amp that has very good detail resolution. Is there better phono pre-amps? Maybe, but not for $249. If you are looking to go down the HiFi rabbit hole and move up from a budget phono pre this would be a good place to start.

I tried a few budget phono amps (Fluance, Pro-Ject etc...) and also from the phono of my Yamaha A-S801 and I have to say the sound is just pure magic with iFi Zen, espcially with vocals and instrumental songs. I went on YouTube and there was some hype around this product, you know when a lot of youtubers are reviewing a product that means paid advertisement. So I was reluctant on buying this phono, but this is definitely a no brainer for the price.
