I already had an HK Soundsticks system for my iMac. The time came to move my iMac from my bedroom to another room, so I decided to get a speaker for my bedroom. The HK Aura, for me, worked beautifully. It *is* 'room filling', so you do not get that distinct left-right feeling that you get from the Soundsticks. However, when I go to a jazz club, you only get that feeling if you are sitting in front of and near the performers. In fact, in many venues all you get is a room full of sound. So, for me, that's not a problem. The Aura doesn't have the punch of my Soundsticks' subwoofer, but it isn't bad (and you can knock it up quite a bit with the phone app. The treble / midrange speakers are around the bottom quarter of the enclosure, so you do get a different sound if that is aligned with your ears.
Anyway, I really liked my first Aura. (Set up is a bit of a pain until you catch on to how to do it. Do *not* rely on the instructions that come with the packaging. Go online and download the more thorough instructions.) So, I bought another Aura for my living / dining room (to replace my old, very large, speakers from the 80s). However, before getting that room setup, I brought the new Aura into my bedroom and set it up with my other Aura. To my surprise, I found that if you balance the two properly, you *do* get a sense of left and right, and as you move around it sounds, to me, more realistic than it does with my Soundsticks. So now, I have a dilemma: keep one for each room -- and each does, on it's own, work quite well -- or buy two more. (I know, these are not cheap.)
My only regret is that I have to feed the audio to multiple speakers from my iMac. You can feed just one directly from an audio source such as an iPod, but that Aura cannot communicate with the others. (I assume that's because the speaker has to be in one of either wifi / optical / bluetooth / or aux mode, so multiple modes are not allowed.) Being able to share amongst a set of these without using a separate computer would be great. I know I could use bluetooth input from a device, but that burns up a lot of battery.
