Immersive 5.1.2-Channel Cinematic Sound

The XIO delivers a 5.1.2-channel spatial audio presentation designed to reproduce sound with convincing width, depth and height. Its sophisticated driver configuration reproduces five main audio channels, a dedicated low-frequency channel and two overhead channels from a single soundbar.

Six Uni-Q MX drivers and two full-range drivers support the main and height channels, while four P185 low-frequency drivers reinforce the bass channel, creating a full-range acoustic presentation without requiring a separate subwoofer.

With support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Sony 360 Reality Audio and MPEG-H, the XIO reproduces compatible immersive soundtracks with precise spatial positioning. Advanced up-mixing technology can also expand conventional mono and stereo content into a wider multichannel presentation.

KEF Uni-Q MX Driver Technology

The XIO features six 50 mm (2") Uni-Q MX drivers, a miniature adaptation of KEF's renowned Uni-Q acoustic technology. These drivers are engineered to deliver precise sound reproduction and broad dispersion from the compact dimensions of a soundbar.

The Uni-Q MX incorporates an innovative decoupler that separates the low-frequency cone from the high-frequency tweeter dome. This arrangement allows the diaphragm to move effectively at lower frequencies while maintaining accurate high-frequency reproduction.

By reducing unwanted interaction between the driver components, Uni-Q MX technology helps produce a balanced soundstage with clear vocals, detailed musical information and consistent audio performance throughout the listening area.

Four P185 Low-Frequency Drivers with P-Flex

The XIO incorporates four KEF P185 low-frequency drivers featuring an innovative high-aspect-ratio racetrack design. Each driver measures 50 x 180 mm (2 x 7"), allowing significant bass performance from a slim acoustic assembly.

The P185 drivers incorporate KEF's P-Flex surround technology, originally developed for the company's high-performance subwoofers. Inspired by the structural principles of origami, the P-Flex surround resists internal acoustic pressure while allowing controlled driver movement.

The compact driver arrangement includes opposing force-cancelling configurations that help reduce cabinet vibration and unwanted mechanical resonance. This engineering allows the XIO to reproduce deep, detailed bass while maintaining its elegant low-profile design.

Velocity Control Technology (VECO)

KEF's patent-pending Velocity Control Technology, or VECO, provides advanced distortion management for the XIO's P185 low-frequency drivers.

A built-in sensor continuously monitors driver cone movement and uses a negative-feedback system to identify deviations from the intended audio signal. Corrective processing is applied to the signal driving the voice coil, helping reduce distortion and compression during demanding low-frequency passages.

This approach improves bass precision and control, allowing the soundbar to reproduce powerful cinematic effects and detailed musical bass with greater accuracy.

Music Integrity Engine for Cinema

The XIO features KEF's Music Integrity Engine (MIE) for Cinema, a proprietary digital signal processing system specifically developed for multichannel home entertainment.

The processing engine coordinates the acoustic drivers and amplifiers while providing spatial audio decoding, sound virtualization, up-mixing and adaptive placement optimization.

These technologies work together to maintain tonal balance, accurate sound imaging and dynamic performance across a variety of audio formats and listening environments.

820-Watt Instantaneous Amplifier Output

Twelve dedicated Class D amplifiers provide a combined instantaneous output power rating of 820 watts. Eight amplifiers drive the high-frequency and midrange sections, while four dedicated amplifiers power the P185 low-frequency drivers.

This integrated amplification system provides precise driver control and dynamic capability, contributing to the XIO's maximum acoustic output of 102 dB SPL at one metre.

Intelligent Placement Technology

KEF Intelligent Placement Technology (IPT) automatically optimizes the XIO's acoustic response according to its surroundings.

HDMI 2.1 eARC and Optical Audio

The XIO connects to compatible televisions through HDMI 2.1 eARC, supporting high-resolution audio transmission up to 24-bit/192 kHz from compatible sources. This single-cable connection provides a convenient way to integrate the soundbar into modern home theatre systems.

A TOSLINK optical digital input supports compatible television and audio sources at resolutions up to 24-bit/96 kHz. A USB-C service port and RJ45 Ethernet connection are also provided.

The XIO delivers substantial bass through its integrated P185 driver system, but also provides options for adding an external subwoofer.

A dedicated RCA subwoofer output allows compatible powered subwoofers to be connected using a conventional analog audio cable.

For wireless integration with compatible KEF subwoofers, the XIO supports the optional KEF KW2 RX receiver. This accessory allows a suitable KEF subwoofer to receive its audio signal wirelessly from the soundbar.
